"Why do Catholics worship Mary? She was just a human being. The Bible never says to pray to her."
The Catholic Response
Catholics do not worship Mary; worship belongs to God alone (CCC 2110). What the Church practices is veneration, which means honoring her the same way Scripture does: the angel Gabriel greeted her as 'full of grace' (Luke 1:28), and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, called her 'blessed among women' (Luke 1:42). Mary herself prophesied that 'all generations will call me blessed' (Luke 1:48), and Catholics are simply fulfilling that prophecy. Asking Mary to pray for us is no different from asking a friend to pray for you, except that she is alive in Christ and closer to Him than anyone who ever lived (CCC 969).

St. Pachomius
Pachomius was a pagan soldier conscripted into the Roman army who converted to Christianity after local Christians brought food and comfort to his miserable regiment. He then invented communal monasticism: before him, monks were essentially solo acts. Every monastery, abbey, and religious community that has existed since owes its basic blueprint to this one ex-soldier's idea.
His feast is May 9, and his story of building community from scratch speaks to today's Gospel about being chosen out of the world to live differently together.

B . Acts 16:1 specifies that Timothy's mother was a Jewish Christian and his father was Greek. Because Jewish identity passes through the mother, local Jews considered Timothy Jewish but uncircumcised, which would have been a scandal. Paul had him circumcised not as a theological requirement but as a pastoral strategy to remove obstacles to their mission.
