Scripture itself tells us Mary is more than ordinary. The angel Gabriel greets her as 'full of grace' (Luke 1:28), a title given to no one else in the Bible, indicating a unique state of holiness. Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, calls her 'the mother of my Lord' (Luke 1:43), recognizing that carrying God in your womb changes everything about who you are. The Church honors Mary not as a goddess but as the first and greatest disciple, the one whose 'yes' made the Incarnation possible (CCC 490, 508, 963).

The Annunciation of the Lord (Solemnity)
March 25 was long considered the actual date of creation itself. Early Church Fathers like St. Augustine and Sextus Julius Africanus believed God created the world, and that Christ was conceived, on the same calendar date. The logic was staggering in its symmetry: the Word who spoke the cosmos into being re-entered it on the anniversary.
Today's Solemnity of the Annunciation celebrates the moment described in today's Gospel (Luke 1:26-38), when Mary's 'yes' opened the door for God to become flesh.

B . When the Annunciation falls during Holy Week or the Easter Octave, it is transferred to the Monday after the Second Sunday of Easter (Divine Mercy Sunday). The Church considers the Paschal Mystery so central that even a Solemnity of the Lord yields to it.
