Pope Leo XIV
Pope recognizes 49 martyrs of the Spanish Civil War
Pope Leo XIV has officially recognized the martyrdom of 49 Spanish Catholics killed in 1936, declaring they were slain in hatred of the faith. These men gave their lives rather than deny Christ, witnesses to a faith that endured even under persecution.
During the same audience, the Pope also advanced several other causes for canonization, recognizing lives marked by sacrifice, hidden fidelity, and heroic virtue.

John 10:22-30
"
The Jews gathered around him and said to him,
“How long are you going to keep us in suspense?
If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
Jesus answered them, “I told you and you do not believe.
The works I do in my Father’s name testify to me.
But you do not believe, because you are not among my sheep.
My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.

The Eucharist |
The Objection
"Jesus didn’t literally mean we eat His Body. He was just speaking symbolically, like when He says ‘I am the vine’ or ‘I am the door.’"
The Catholic Response
In John, Jesus doesn’t soften His words, He intensifies them. After saying, “I am the bread of life,” He goes further: “My flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink” (John 6:55). When many disciples react with shock and leave, Jesus doesn’t call them back to explain it as a symbol—He lets them go (John 6:66). At the Last Supper, He makes it even clearer: “This is my body” (Luke 22:19), not “this represents.” Paul echoes this in warning that anyone who receives unworthily is “guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 11:27), which would make no sense if it were only symbolic. From the earliest centuries, Christians like Ignatius of Antioch affirmed the Eucharist as the real Body of Christ. The Church has always taught that in the Eucharist, Christ is truly and substantially present.

CCC 2226 — Education and Formation
A Louisiana district eliminating homework reflects a broader shift in how we form the next generation. While reducing stress matters, real formation requires discipline and perseverance—are we building character or avoiding discomfort?

Laudato Si’ 109 — Technology and Profit
The clash between Musk, OpenAI, and Microsoft reflects a deeper tension: innovation meant to serve humanity drifting toward profit and power. When billion-dollar technologies lose their original purpose, the question isn’t just legal—it’s moral. The pursuit of advancement without accountability risks turning tools for good into instruments of control.
Reflect → Are the things you build and pursue serving others or are they selfish in nature?

CCC 2415 — Respect for Creation
The debate over Colombia’s invasive hippos highlights a tension between compassion and responsibility. While the desire to save life is good, stewardship also means protecting entire ecosystems, not just individual animals. Caring for creation requires wisdom—holding together mercy for creatures and responsibility for the world they impact.
Reflect → Do you care for creation with both compassion and responsibility or only what feels good in the moment?

Saint of the Day |
April 28 |
St. Louis Mary Grignion de Montfort
Louis de Montfort was a fiery French preacher who spent his life calling people back to radical trust in Jesus through total devotion to Mary. He walked from town to town, preaching missions, renewing parishes, and challenging comfortable Christianity wherever he went. His boldness often got him expelled from cities—but he never stopped. He’s best known for True Devotion to Mary, teaching that the surest path to Christ is total consecration through her.
His feast is April 28. His message is simple: if you want to belong fully to Christ, hold nothing back.
Trivia Answer
B . The rededication of the Temple after its desecration
The Feast of Dedication commemorates the purification and rededication of the Temple in 164 BC after it had been desecrated by pagan sacrifice. It’s fitting that during this feast on restoring true worship, Jesus declares, “The Father and I are one.”
