The word 'Purgatory' doesn't appear in the Bible, but neither does 'Trinity,' and both doctrines are rooted in Scripture. Jesus himself speaks of a sin that "will not be forgiven either in this age or in the age to come" (Matthew 12:32), implying some sins can be forgiven after death. Paul describes being saved "as through fire" in 1 Corinthians 3:15, pointing to a purification after death for those who are saved but still imperfect. The Catechism (CCC 1030-1032) clarifies that Purgatory is not a second chance at salvation but God's mercy completing the holiness he started in us, because nothing unclean can enter heaven (Revelation 21:27).

Her feast day is April 17, and her life of faith amid suffering mirrors today's Sorrowful Mysteries and the Gospel's theme of God providing abundantly where human resources fall short.
