Today's first reading is God literally saying 'it is never too late to talk.' The Catechism (CCC 2308) insists that 'all other means of putting an end to [aggression] must have been shown to be impractical or ineffective' before force is justified. When any leader declares diplomacy dead, the Church asks: have you truly exhausted every avenue, or have you simply grown impatient with the hard, grinding work of peace?
